All eyes are on the new Surface Pro following its announcement today, but Microsoft has also revealed plans to give a big boost to inking with the Surface Pen in its Office apps.

Microsoft Surface boss Panos Panay told the BBC it had been "completely redesigned inside out", and would be more intuitive to use. On the inside, however, expect notable changes.

Microsoft keynote star Panay may have been telling the truth about the fact that the tech company will not announce a Surface Pro 5 at the Shanghai event. Microsoft has rounded the edges on the perimeter. That's no longer being included in the box, unlike what was the case with previous Surface Pro models. The Core i7 model still comes with a fan to handle that extra oomph.

Battery life claimed is an equally commendable 14.5 hours.

We found that battery life was the Achilles Heel of the Surface Pro 4 when we reviewed it 18 months ago.

The Surface Pro range will be available on June 15, but models featuring LTE connectivity will be available later in the year.

The Surface's stylus will now mimic pencil shading when tilted, much like the Apple Pencil for iPad Pro tablets. "We have, inside and out, over 800 custom new parts that we've built for the Surface Pro", Gavin said.

The Surface Pro features a 12.3-inch PixelSense Display with a pixel density of 267 pixels per inch and a 3:2 aspect ratio.

Microsoft hasn't made any huge change to the design of the 2-in-1, but there are a few that will make the difference. However, he also emphasized that the company is not done yet with the product line. The Surface Pen (available for $99) has been upgraded to support 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity and a new Surface Pro Signature Type Cover covered in Alcantara is available in platinum, burgundy, and cobalt blue ($159 each). The Surface Pen will come in new colors to match the keyboard.
