Putin dismisses US claims about Trump, Russia and elections

Russian Federation deal with opposition rallies in a far softer way than in other countries, including the United States, President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with NBC News anchor Megyn Kelly.

As for claims of Russian Federation hacking into the 2016 US presidential election, Putin maintained USA intelligence agencies and congressional committees looking into the matter had been "misled".

Despite the evident tension on camera, in an interview Kelly described Putin as "very personable" when the cameras were off.

He had similar dismissive answers to Kelly's questions about Michael Flynn, Trump's national security adviser who was sacked after a brief stint in the White House.

"The Constitution of the United States and the electoral legislation are structured in such a way that more electors can vote for a candidate who is backed by fewer voters", Putin said. "Good job, your lives must be boring", he said. Her meeting with the Indian Prime Minister landed her in controversy as she had asked him, "Are you on Twitter?". "Put your finger anywhere on a map of the world", he said, "and everywhere you will hear complaints that American officials are interfering in internal election processes".

The Russian president also declined to address reports that he was in possession of a secret dossier of compromising material on Trump, and said there was no "special relationship" between the two men.

Megyn Kelly sits down for an interview with Vladimir Putin about Michael Flynn on June 4, 2017.

While the morning-after reviews are all going to focus on what she did or didn't get from Putin, I think the real news here is that NBC might finally have a winning newsmagazine. Trump has strongly defended Flynn, saying his former aide was the victim of a witch hunt.

"And then afterwards I was told 'Do you know that was an American gentleman and he was involved in some things? This is our message", President Putin said.

"That's completely nonsense! Do you even understand what you're asking, or not?"

"Why do you feel you have the right to ask us these kinds of questions?"

While I am skeptical of Megyn Kelly (as I am of all lovely people paid millions of dollars to provide us with news and opinion), I like her more than most of the mindless infotainment brigade.

"That's it. I didn't even really talk to him". Even though there was a time when Trump went to Moscow "I never met with him".

Sen. Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate intelligence committee, said Sunday he hoped that Trump would not attempt to bar Comey's testimony.

When asked if he had anything damaging on Trump, Putin called it "another load of nonsense".

Putin downplayed Flynn's appearance with him at a December 2015 gala dinner in honour of the Russian television network Russia Today (RT), which U.S. officials consider a state-run propaganda outlet. The premise of the show seems to be that at 7 pm on Sundays there are a lot of viewers who want to watch "60 Minutes" type programming at that hour, but want it to come in a MUCH softer, estrogen-laden, package.
