Quail Hollow prepped for PGA; future of Wells Fargo in Wilmington unclear

The PGA of America is moving its major championship to May for the first time in 70 years when it goes to Bethpage Black on New York's Long Island in 2019 as part of a long-term plan that involves a major shift in the golf calendar, including The Players Championship going back to its March date, The Associated Press has learned.

Spieth's dramatic Open Championship victory at Royal Birkdale saw him join Jack Nicklaus in winning three different majors before the age of 24 and he can surpass Tiger Woods as the youngest victor of all four of the game's biggest prizes at Quail Hollow. Unusually for a tournament staging a grand slam, Quail Hollow is an annual pit-stop on the PGA Tour, the home of the Wells Fargo Championship.

"There are courses that you're going to go to that you've played well at before, and it's not going to be too much different just because it's a different tournament", McIlroy said. We played Quail Hollow in May before. It's a different grass. I felt like I got some things worked out in the swing that were just holding me back a little bit. But I'm excited to be here.

The US PGA Championship's move from August to May is expected to be confirmed on Tuesday.

As a player whose best performances have always come on the biggest stages it would be a surprise if Day didn't factor in Charlotte, particularly after disappointing performances in the first three Grand Slam events of the year.

What separates him from McIlroy is Quail Hollow.

"I think Jordan has a great chance to do it this week, and it would be huge for golf", said McIlroy, who has tied for ninth, tied for third and tied for seventh in the past three Masters. "It would be nice to make that a hat trick". Apart from providing the official transport service with various models of the S-Class and GLS, Mercedes-Benz will also be presenting current models to fans attending the tournament at four display areas on the club grounds.

Naturally the course will be set up differently for the US PGA, but McIlroy still benefits from all the positive feelings he has accumulated there over the years and will return full of confidence. "I thought it was nearly too fast", Na said.

But McIlroy said rebounding from a horrid start at the British Open to share fourth has made a difference for him.

One shot behind was Scott Hend of Australia, who got into his first Bridgestone Invitational on a loophole and posted a 63 even with two three-putt bogeys.

"I've been working hard on the game".

"Obviously Jordan has a great chance at completing a career grand slam, which would be huge for the game", McIlroy said.

The switch will bring about a reshuffling of the order in which the four men's majors are held. He knows the next step to join Nicklaus, Woods, Player, Hogan and Sarazen is a huge one.

"I would say Rory's probably the guy to beat at this point next week, " Jordan Spieth told reporters Sunday after his final round at Firestone.

"But I'm definitely not going out there to try to prove anything to anyone".
