Cleveland Browns Release Cornerback Joe Haden

Haden, 28, has $4 million guarantee coming to him from the Cleveland Browns.

Luckily, the Steelers were gifted the player the type of player they wanted after the Cleveland Browns cut Pro Bowl cornerback Joe Haden.

The Cleveland Browns have cut former pro bowl cornerback Joe Haden. The Bucs are looking to compete this year and make their way back to the playoffs after a long absence, and adding Haden to their defense will certainly make that goal more attainable. "The fourth preseason game scheduled for Thursday night in Dallas will be cancelled". The deal is for three years and $27 million with $7 million of it this year. But he has struggled with injuries and consistency in recent years and that - along with his salary - prompted the Browns to get younger and cheaper at the position.

After releasing veteran cornerback Ron Brooks, the Eagles have just over $13 million in cap space, which could be enough to structure a short-term deal that would entice Haden to sign. The Steelers are attempting to sign Tuitt before the team's imposed season-opening deadline. If all goes well, Haden could face his former team when the division rivals collide in the season opener September 10 in Cleveland.

Haden, of course, was destined for stardom after the Browns made him the seventh pick in the 2010 draft.

Haden signed a contract extension in May 2014 for five years and $67.5 million.

Granted, a play for Haden makes more sense now than it did earlier this week when the Browns were trying to move him in a trade - that was a total non-starter.

Last season, Haden missed three games with groin muscle injuries that required postseason surgery.

Antonio Brown is vouching for the Steelers to sign Haden. This is the ideal opportunity for the New England Patriots to pounce on. Now that he's a free agent, it's worth a conversation at least, though this rumor is not going much further than that.

Another question that arises with this signing is what happens to the other cornerbacks on the Steelers roster.

The Steelers then used third-round and fifth-round picks to take cornerbacks Cameron Sutton and Brian Allen, respectively, in the NFL Draft. The current backups to second-year starters Daryl Worley and James Bradberry are Captain Munnerlyn, the No. 1 nickel, and Zack Sanchez, who's coming off a great game last week at Jacksonville. Unfortunately, these injuries have put Haden in a decline and dampened his play-making ability.
