Ex-Titans GM says Kaepernick not worth the 'circus'

Titans coach Mike Mularkey said he didn't want Mariota doing much in practice, preferring the quarterback to heal up.

Matt Cassel will start under center for Tennessee if Mariota can't play. Like all Titans skill-position players, Walker's going-forward outlook is contingent on Marcus Mariota's health.

The Titans only surrendered one scoring drive of any significance, as two of the Dolphins' scores - 10 of their points - came as a direct result of turnovers.

To be fair, Mariota wasn't exactly tearing it up when he was on the field Sunday, having gone six of 10 with two costly interceptions. Defensively, Miami is allowing 19 points and 360.3 yards per game. Mariota has as many touchdowns running (three) as he has passing (three).

Behind perhaps the best offensive line in the National Football League, the Titans have a talented duo of running backs that will likely see their biggest workload of the season against Miami.

Last week, the Miami Dolphins traveled all the way to London and were faced with the unenviable task of trying to slow down Drew Brees and the potent New Orleans Saints offense. The pass defense has been giving up 285.3 yards per contest.

Cutler described the team's offense as "piss poor".

The defense added a score of their own with just 53 seconds remaining in the first quarter when Kiko Alonso's hit on Matt Cassel forced him to fumble.

Mariota has passed for 792 yards and three touchdowns so far this season, his third in the NFL.

"I know he's not familiar with our offense", Mularkey said. The ball squirted 14 yards and Jones scooped it up and ran uncontested, with several Titans not bothering to chase him because they thought it was an incomplete pass.

But Landry said: "I did a great job of finishing the play". He simply needs to manage the game, make good decisions, and deliver the ball to his playmakers. That turnaround led the Dolphins to the playoffs and it could give the group some optimism at this time.

That brought in third quarterback Tyler Thigpen to finish out the game.

Murray, on the other hand, after getting half the Jacksonville game and two practices off, was back and rolling with his best effort of the season two weeks ago against the Seahawks.

Kaepernick has a career record of 28-30 as a starter, and he has two NFC Championship Game appearances and one Super Bowl appearance to his credit in a starting role.
